The SML Good Neighbors' Programs
Our four-week summer enrichment day camp for children in Bedford and Franklin Counties focuses on academic mentoring in reading, writing, quantitative and communications skills. Additional enrichments are provided every afternoon in Nature Education, Peace Education, Cultural Diversity and Global Education as well as theater through a partnership with the Roanoke Children’s Theatre. Students also receive breakfast, lunch and snack each day of the program.
Our vocational exploration experiences for college students through intensive Leadership Development internships are provided each summer to eleven carefully selected college students who are the primary facilitators of our summer programs.
Weekend bags containing food for the weekend and a new book each week of camp and summer academy are provided each year. These bags include enough food to provide six meals over the weekend.
Volunteer and mentor opportunities for over 200 community volunteers through our various programs and behind the scene activities such as fundraising and planning.
Our Academy program provides summer academic and social-emotional support for middle and high school students.
Breakfast, lunch and snacks are provided during the summer sessions. Snacks are also provided during the after-school sessions in addition to the summer nutritional support provided through the weekend bag program.
Student Enrichment in the Arts (S.E.A.) programs provide out of school enrichment opportunities across Franklin and Bedford Counties. Snacks are provided in the after-school sessions and dinner for evening sessions.
