Empowering the Next Generation: Celebrating National Youth Confidence Day with SML Good Neighbors

Every year on October 20, we observe National Youth Confidence Day, a special day dedicated to celebrating the limitless potential, boundless energy, and vibrant spirit of young people. Established in 2018 by Tiffany R. Lewis, CEO of the Confident Girl Mentoring Program, Inc., this day serves as a powerful reminder of how crucial positive mentoring and self-belief are for our youth.
At SML Good Neighbors, Inc., building confidence isn't just something we talk about on October 20; it is at the heart of everything we do, every single day.
Building Confidence Through Creativity: S.E.A Theatre After-school
One of the most transformative ways we watch children grow in confidence is through our S.E.A Theatre after-school programs. Over eight weeks of immersive theatre workshops and training, students step out of their comfort zones and onto the stage.
Acting and performance offer unique opportunities that go far beyond memorizing lines. Through theatrical arts, children discover:
Social Growth: Working collaboratively with peers teaches empathy, teamwork, and effective communication.
Literacy in Action: Engaging with scripts and storytelling provides unique, dynamic literacy opportunities that make reading and expression exciting.
Self-Assurance: Standing up in front of an audience and expressing emotion gives children a profound sense of pride and unshakeable self-belief.

Summer Programs, Outdoor Exploration, and Leadership
Our commitment to fostering confidence doesn't stop when the school bell rings. Our summer program is packed with confidence-building experiences designed to help children thrive:
Reading Buddy Program: Pairing younger children with enthusiastic mentors helps build strong reading skills while fostering supportive peer relationships.
Hands-On Outdoor Adventures: Through our field trips and stream studies, children explore the great outdoors, tackle hands-on environmental challenges, and build resilience through discovery.
We also believe in supporting youth as they grow into young adulthood. Our internship program for college students offers real-world, hands-on experience in a professional setting, empowering them to cultivate essential leadership skills and step into their futures with confidence.

How You Can Celebrate Today
National Youth Confidence Day is a call to action for all of us. Whether you share an encouraging word with a child, highlight a local youth achievement, or support organizations like SML Good Neighbors that champion positive role models, you can make a difference.
Together, let’s continue building a world where every young person feels seen, heard, and confident in their ability to change the world!
