Elevating After-School Arts: Help Us Shape the Future of Youth Programs in Bedford & Franklin Counties

At SML Good Neighbors, our mission has always centered on creating meaningful, accessible, and enriching experiences for the children and families in our region. For over 13 years, we have had the privilege of offering after-school programs designed to inspire creativity, build confidence, and foster connections among elementary students across Bedford and Franklin counties.
None of this work would be possible without the ongoing dedication of our school communities. We deeply value the feedback of the families, educators, and school staff we serve, and we appreciate everyone’s continued support as we look toward the future.
A Legacy Built on Community Partnerships
Reflecting on our journey over the last decade and a half, our after-school offerings have largely focused on the transformative power of the performing arts. Through wonderful historical partnerships with regional staples like the Roanoke Children's Theatre and The Jack Tales, we’ve brought stories to life and introduced hundreds of young learners to the magic of the stage.
Today, SML Good Neighbors independently manages and oversees all aspects of our after-school enrichment programs. This transition allows us to tailor our initiatives directly to the unique needs of our local schools.

Looking Ahead: Free Elementary Arts Enrichment
As we prepare for our S.E.A season, we are evaluating community interest in expanding and refining our free after-school arts enrichment opportunities for elementary students in Bedford and Franklin counties.
Art and theatre provide vital outlets for self expression, creative problem solving, and social emotional growth. We are committed to keeping these high quality experiences completely free of charge so that every child has the opportunity to participate, regardless of financial barriers.
However, to build programs that truly serve our families, we need your perspective.
We Want to Hear From You!
Whether you are a parent, guardian, teacher, or school administrator, your insight is vital in guiding our planning. Your feedback will help us better understand:
Program Interests: What types of arts and creative activities excite your students most?
Scheduling Preferences: What days and times work best for your family's routine?
Community Needs: How can we make our programs even more accessible and impactful for local schools?
