What a spectacular celebration of community, architecture, and philanthropy! The Smith Mountain Lake Charity Home Tour 2025 has officially concluded.
Celebrating Our Hosts and Community Partners
Our deepest gratitude goes to the McCarry family for their incredible generosity in graciously allowing us to host their beautiful home for this year’s tour. The stunning lakeside backdrop and exquisite design of their residence set a perfect stage for this annual tradition.
A massive "Thank You!" also extends to the countless sponsors, volunteers, and supporters who ensure this event remains a truly fabulous and unique way to support local nonprofits.
The Heart of SML: A 35 Year Tradition
The SML Charity Home Tour is more than just a peek inside beautiful homes, it’s a powerful community institution. What began in 1991 as a simple idea has blossomed into an event that captures the essence of Smith Mountain Lake living.
It is now known as the only tour in the nation where all homes are accessible by both road and water, offering guests a unique perspective of lakeside architecture. Over the course of its 35-year run, the tour has been repeatedly honored as "Best Community Event" and "Best Charity Event" by the readers of Laker Magazine, a testament to its enduring local impact.
Making a Million Dollar Difference
The true measure of the Home Tour's success lies in its community impact. Since its inception, the all volunteer effort has raised and distributed over $4.6 million to more than 50 local charities in the Smith Mountain Lake region. In recent years alone, they have been able to distribute hundreds of thousands of dollars to partner charities providing essential services, from food and clothing assistance to youth programs and medical transportation. Every ticket purchased and every sponsorship dollar contributes directly to the well being of our neighbors.
A Design Team Dedicated to Giving Back
The final day of the 2025 tour brought a special highlight: the opportunity to meet with the talented teams behind the featured McCarry home. We were honored to host the professionals from Circle Design Studio, Grace Alon Builders, and Closet Storage Organizers featured in the photo.
Not only did these teams create such a truly stunning home, but they went a step further, volunteering their time to help guide the tours! Their insights added such an exciting extra layer for guests, who loved learning about the innovative design choices, architectural details, and local materials firsthand. This act of giving from the homeowners to the builders perfectly encapsulates the generosity that defines the SML community.
