SML Good Neighbors Scholarship Trust
The $25,000 would fund scholarships for students who hope to gain certification in a trade or para-profession, or who aspire to a 2- or 4-year college degree.
Breaking out of poverty requires motivation from both student and parent, and a certain “know-how;” scholarships alone are not sufficient. Beginning in 8th grade camp, our curriculum will be expanded to include information about possible careers and the requisite education or certification. Guests will speak about their careers and how they achieved their goals. We will develop a “Did You Know?” newsletter for campers and parents, again highlighting careers and educational requirements. SMLGN will form a committee to define processes, policies, and qualifications; there is relevant expertise among board members.
Our goal is to make awards of $1000 to 2 students by the end of the 2021-2022 academic year. The remaining funds will be invested with a long-term of goal of funding future scholarships through dividend earnings.
THANK YOU FOR VOTING!
Come back September 29 at 9 a.m. ET to see the winners!
