The SML Good Neighbors' Programs

Programs Overview

Our four-week summer enrichment day camp for children in Bedford and Franklin Counties focuses on academic mentoring in reading, writing, quantitative and communications skills. Additional enrichments are provided every afternoon in Nature Education, Peace Education, Global Education as well as theater.

Students also receive breakfast, lunch and snack each day of the program.

Our vocational exploration experiences for college students through intensive Leadership Development internships are provided each summer to eleven carefully selected college students who are the primary facilitators of our summer programs.

Weekend bags containing food for the weekend and a new book each week of camp and summer academy are provided each year. These bags include enough food to provide six meals over the weekend.

Volunteer and mentor opportunities for over 200 community volunteers through our various programs and behind the scene activities such as fundraising and planning.

Student Enrichment in the Arts (S.E.A) programs provide out of school enrichment opportunities across Franklin and Bedford Counties. Snacks are provided in the after-school sessions.

SML Good Neighbors established this scholarship program to support our students pursuing educational opportunities after high school. Nancy Horton, a long time volunteer and supporter, pledged matching funds to launch SML Good Neighbors’ Nancy Horton Scholarship, benefiting students who have participated in SML Good Neighbors’ programs and who wish to further their education after high school by attending trade school, community college or a 4-year institution.

SML Good Neighbors will provide scholarships to two deserving seniors who have participated in our programs. A selection committee will determine which applicants are selected as recipients of the scholarship
